Applying For College Is Tricky. We Can Help.

Team up with us to (1) Complete college applications and essays, (2) Choose a major and career path, (3) Get academic tutoring, and (4) Study more effectively.

I was introduced to the college prep program of Are You Ready for College during the Summer Leadership Institute at Mercy Street. Although I was already admitted to the University of Texas at Austin and had received a lot of scholarships, I learned a lot about methods for writing college entrance essays, and it helped me to write stronger college scholarship essays. After finishing the program, I received four more scholarships for college.

Welcome to Are You Ready For College

Are You Ready, Inc., is a nonprofit organization that is committed to improving the lives of people by offering both academic and personal development support to students in high school and college. We partner with institutions to bring our program to both large organizations and underserved communities.

Are You Ready for college is an initiative that helps high school and adult learners apply for college and develop tools to balance their school, work and personal lives. The Are You Ready for College program meets the needs of those who cannot retain the services of an educational consultant or personal tutor. Our program “fills in the gaps” so that we see more equity in the college application process and thus more college graduates.

In 2012, President Barack Obama launched the North Star Program as a call to Americans to graduate more students from college. At the time of his call to action, the United States was 13th in the world. We are doing our part to answer the call by offering students support in the places they need it most so that everyone has an equal chance to succeed in college and in life.

Welcome to our organization. How can we help?

Music Theory Specialist

Hi, nice to meet you! My name is Marlei and I have been tutoring students in academic studies as well as music since high school and all the way through college.

After I graduated from high school, I attended Collin College, a community college in Dallas/Fort Worth. I made the Dean's List, was a part of Phi Theta Kappa, and I earned a $60,000 transfer scholarship to the University of Miami.

Go Canes! I can help you do that too.

I specialize in English, biology, voice, music theory, and college prep. I’ve always had a love for helping others succeed in understanding material that seems a bit daunting at first.

Currently I am a music major and my minor is in songwriting and music business. I am extremely creative and patient, and no question is ever a dumb question.

I sing all the time and when I’m excited I may even sing a riff or two (I know it’s funny so it’s definitely okay to laugh). I’m not afraid to face challenges head on and it is my job to help you believe and maintain that mentality as well. Together we can do anything and I can’t wait to help you reach your goals!

Study Methods Specialist

Hi y’all, I’m Elizabeth, a junior at SMU in Dallas! I’m super passionate about education and one thing I love doing is helping others learn and grow.

I am super open minded and conscientious, so I am pretty much designed to be a good listener and well-prepared for discussion.

I am studying psychology (on track for a Clinical PhD!), but I have a wide academic and artistic skillset including biology, math, European and art history, fine art, essays of any kind, and more.

I’ve been an artist and art student my whole life as well, and college has led me to avant garde art and music (Yayoi Kusama or Brockhampton, anyone?!).

I work really hard to be excellent at everything I do, so we’ll make the most out of our tutoring or college prep sessions!

SAT Prep Specialist

Hello there! I’m Zainah, and I am one of several skilled teammates we have here at Are You Ready For College.

During my time in high school, I experienced many successes

in both academia and fine arts, due to a mixture of resilience and phenomenal mentors.

Though my achievements in AP courses and being VP of a

school organization was instigated by a willingness to learn, guidance from

school faculty was a huge help in my process to becoming a college student (and

finally pursuing my passion for architecture!).

This is why I’ve developed such an eagerness for this

position, so as to give others what many teachers provided to me.

But honestly, I’m also just really excited to

get to know each of you individually and how you learn best! For me, it’s with

a cup of coffee in one hand and lots of colour-coding. How about you?
